Hannah and Sean's Wedding at Arch Street Meeting House

October 16, 2023 in Weddings

This past weekend I got to photograph my dear friends’ wedding. It was held at the beautiful Arch Street Meeting house in Old City, Philadelphia. A gathering place for the The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), where you can still — to this day — get married in the traditional Quaker fashion. Rather than bring in an officiant, Sean and Hannah — pictured above — were marrying themselves in front of all of their friends and family. After their nuptials, as guests walked out of the venue, they signed a paper denoting they witnessed the couples marriage.

I’ve personally never seen this exact approach to a wedding before. I loved the sentiment behind the ceremony, and especially loved learning more about the history behind it all throughout the day. The dinner was held in the museum — note showroom — portion of the meeting house. There you could read some of the installations along the side of the room — pictured above. It was a nice addition for a dinner venue, as guests started walking about and reading while having dessert. Congratulations to my friends Sean and Hannah and thank you for letting me a big part of your special day. Have fun in Italy!
